After coming to Kokomo in 1994, Darrell started bowling and had averages of 155 and 166 for his two first seasons. When he went into the Don Lowry Lanes East pro shop and spoke with pro shop operator Jon Dieterman, Jon asked Darrell why he was using a conventionally-drilled ball. Jon said he would drill a finger-tip ball for him and if he didn’t like it he would drill it back. That next season Darrell’s average jumped by about 20 pins! Darrell rapidly improved to become a top notch bowler for many years. He posted one 300 game, six city tournament titles and one state title.
