hof spall don

Don was a consistently high average bowler who also gave back to the game serving the local board including a term as president in 1998-99. His contributions extended to authoring the Kokomo Tribune bowling column for three years.

Don was introduced to bowling in 1973 when he joined the youth league at Cedar Crest Lanes. He continued league play there until moving to Astro Bowl when it opened. Don participated in the Astro Bowl Travel Leagues during his high school years competing against bowlers from the other Astro Bowls in Indiana. After graduating high school, he left for college and was absent from the Kokomo bowling scene for two years.

In 1986, he became an adult league bowler when he joined the Merchants League at Astro bowl. He also enjoyed tournament play and competed in all the major tournaments including the ABC Nationals.

Don’s priorities changed from the bowling scene to the family scene. His children began to play high school sports, and he found it necessary to make a choice because of the conflicts of their school sport schedules and bowling. Don could usually be spotted at Western High School or IUK watching his kids play.
